To support its future growth and development, Nouveau Monde Graphite is looking for a talented, passionate and ambitious Laboratory Supervisor.


Role & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Operational Excellence, the selected candidate will oversee the effective operation of the company’s laboratories. You will actively participate in daily activities by performing analyses when necessary. You will ensure that established procedures and methods are followed and will make improvements as needed. Specifically, the main responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the company’s laboratories.

  • Ensure that good laboratory practices are applied to create a clean and safe work environment.

  • With the Chemist, revise and update analysis protocols to adhere to the highest industry standards.

  • Plan the work of laboratory staff to meet deadlines and ensure that the work of technicians and sampling staff complies with established procedures.

  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is operated correctly and plan equipment maintenance.

  • Perform laboratory analysis when necessary.

  • Actively participate in technical meetings.

  • Properly maintain analytical data and make corrections as needed.

  • Manage the planning and execution phases of IT projects and requests, including needs analysis, statements of work (SOW), and the approval and tracking of project plans.
  • Update safety data sheets.

  • The candidate we are looking for must have a diploma of college studies in analytical chemistry technology or the equivalent.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience as a laboratory technician or in a similar position, preferably in a mining, manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising and coordinating staff.

  • Applicants with a bachelor’s in chemistry or the equivalent as well as similar work experience will also be considered.

  • Knowledge of the following analytical chemistry techniques: Carbon/sulfur analysis; Loss on ignition; Sieving particle size analysis; Laser diffraction particle size analysis; ICP-OES; BET specific surface area.

  • Knowledge of natural graphite and its applications as well as lithium-ion batteries is an asset.

  • Fluency in spoken and written French & English.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
