GREEN ACTIVE ANODE MATERIAL

At the heart of Québec’s battery hub, NMG is developing the Bécancour Battery Materials Plant, a complete advanced manufacturing platform for value-added graphite processing.

PHASE 2 COMMERCIAL PLANT

  • Location: 200,000 m² industrial site in Bécancour, Québec, about 150 km northeast of Montréal, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River.

  • Production capacity: Approximately 43,000 tonnes per year of active anode material and other specialized products.

  • Local advantages: Industrial park with heavy infrastructure, clean and affordable hydroelectricity, direct chlorine supply, skilled workforce, and multimodal logistics base close to US and European markets.

  • Raw materials: Much of the Matawinie Mine’s production will be used as feedstock to supply the plant, taking advantage of operational efficiencies, product traceability, and higher margins.

  • Technologies: Exclusive purification process without the use of hydrofluoric acid and active R&D to produce the greenest materials.

  • Industrial cluster: Rapid development of on-site production of critical minerals and battery materials – GM-Posco, Ford, Nemaska Lithium, Vale.

  • Start-up: Preparatory work launched in parallel with engineering, process optimization, procurement, and stakeholder engagement activities.

FULLY INTEGRATED PRODUCTION

Advanced graphite processing is essential for the material to achieve the optimum properties and performance required for use in lithium-ion batteries.

Combining shaping, purification, and coating units, the Bécancour Battery Material Plant will refine graphite from our Matawinie Mine into high-purity, high-quality active anode material as per customer specifications.

By controlling all stages of processing, from ore to battery material, NMG ensures complete traceability of our products, quality control and direct sales to battery and EV manufacturers.

We are on track to become North America’s largest fully integrated producer of natural graphite active anode material for batteries.
